With this holy “mantra” of success in life, Suraj Singh Memorial College, Ranchi was started as co-educational institution in the year 1972 by few philanthropist and dedicated people to the cause of education. The college was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Bihar, Sri Kedar Pandey. It was started with Intermediate Arts and Science teaching. In response to growing demand, Commerce was later added, completing the foundation of core disciplines.
To achieve our vision, we are committed to the following mission objectives:
- To ensure regular academic and tutorial classes, along with effective student mentorship programs;
- To construct a new multi-storied building, fully furnished and equipped with adequate infrastructure to accommodate the growing student strength;
- To conduct seminars and workshops focusing on career development, social awareness, and national issues;
- To develop smart classrooms, advanced laboratories, an e-library, a language lab, reading rooms, auditorium, playground and common rooms for both boys and girls, fostering a better learning environment.
- To introduce and expand vocational and skill-oriented programs such as IT and MBA etc. aimed at providing more employment opportunities;
- To provide comprehensive facilities for sports and cultural activities, ensuring the all-round development of students;
- To establish a unit of NCC encouraging students to contribute meaningfully to society and the nation.

With a belief in these dictums, we motivate our students to become successful human beings.
We also aim to adequately equip them for tough battle of real life, to qualify them for various employment and become a sincere, sensible and responsible citizen. They are made aware with their social duties and motivated to render their services to the social cause through our NSS Units.
We believe that education should not be merely about acquiring knowledge, but about inculcating moral values, creativity and self-confidence. We also believe in overall development of students. So, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are given a thrust. As a result, the college has consistently excelled in sports, achieving the title of overall champion and winning numerous Trophies. We feel proud to say that many of our students are constantly participating at state and National Level teams in various games.
Our college has a good record of placement. Students are placed in state govt, central govt/ Railway, Security services and other private services too.
To achieve our Vision and Mission we have a dedicated team of learned teachers. They are devoted and dedicated for giving teaching and mentorship so as to make their career bright. At the same time the team of non-teaching staff is providing all sorts of help in minimum possible time.
We continue to work diligently and collectively, with strong team spirit and unwavering commitment, to foster the all-round development of our college. It is our constant endeavor to elevate Suraj Singh Memorial College into a model college of higher education in Ranchi University.
