About Suraj Singh Memorial College

With this holy “mantra” of success in life, Suraj Singh Memorial College, Ranchi was started as co-educational institution in the year 1972 by few philanthropist and dedicated people to the cause of education. The college was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Bihar, Sri Kedar Pandey. It was started with Intermediate Arts and Science teaching. In response to growing demand, Commerce was later added, completing the foundation of core disciplines.

Marking a major milestone, the college became a constituent unit of Ranchi University in 1978, integrating more closely with the university’s academic framework which enabled us   to start Degree teaching with Honours in all the three streams viz Science, Arts and Commerce. At present there are twenty UG Programs.

Adding feathers in its cap the college started UG Vocational Programs such as BCA in 2011 and BBA in 2018 and PG courses in seven subjects viz Hindi, English, History, Political Science, Nagpuri, Commerce and Botany from 2018. Based on its success and achievements, the college was accredited by NAAC in 2019.

The College has made a footprint in its journey of success by evolving from a few students in the beginning to more than 6000 students at present in a versatile field of education.

The college has developed modern infrastructure, including smart classrooms, Wi-Fi facilities, well-equipped laboratories, and a comprehensive library to enhance the learning environment.

The College actively organizes guest lectures and industry collaborations to enhance the academic and professional development of its students.

The College places strong emphasis on holistic development, encouraging students to actively participate in co-curricular and extracurricular activities, viz sports, cultural events etc. We have an excellent record in sports wining a lot of medals these years. The college now possesses prestigious position in Ranchi University.
